Concept
The
idea for Delaware Pet Alert was conceived several
years ago. One afternoon, while I was visiting my
mother at her house, I saw a dog running back and
forth across the highway. After several attempts of
calling the dog he finally ran up to me. He was a
beautiful, tall and slender Greyhound. I was pleased
to see he had a collar but to my surprise he didn't
have a tag. That afternoon I called every local vet
and shelter to see if anyone had reported their dog
missing.
Vision
It was at that time I realized that Delaware needed
a central location where pets could be reported lost
and found. After several days and just by chance I
was able to locate the dog's owner. I was told that
the dog did have an id tag but that a few days
before he ran away from home his tag had fallen off.
I found out that he also had a microchip. I, like so
many others, never thought about checking for that.
Even if they think about it, very few people will
take a found pet to a vet to check for a microchip.
Microchips are good but shouldn't be your only form
of id. I wondered ... how could pets be reunited
with their people if they didn't have an id? After
spending several years thinking about this incident
it was finally time for me to step up and do
something. Delaware Pet Alert has been created to
provide a centralized location where information
about lost and found pets can be obtained. It works
with and without id. It's compatible with any type
of id - tag, microchip, rabies tag etc. It even
works if your pet loses their id. It is a lost pet
alert system for the State of Delaware.
Mission
Our
mission is to promote and protect the health, safety
and welfare of pets of people who live in Delaware
by providing a 24/7 lost pet prevention and recovery
service.
Values
The
success of our purpose greatly depends on public
awareness. Please spread the word about Delaware Pet
Alert to everyone you know.
